Without any clear need for XML, you risk making this application overcomplicated, and bewildering for anyone to maintain. I suggest that you keep the basics basic, and use XML only where it makes a substantial difference. Of course, this is a very challenging approach because it requires some real end-to-end design instead of just grabbing at random bits of technology.
